Summer service arrangements at Valkeala
The 2007 summer services will be held at the Selänpää airport in Valkeala. The Selänpää airport is located in northern-Valkeala near the Vekaranjärvi military base, about thirty kilometers north of Kouvola. The landscape surrounding the cross-shaped intersecting runways has been actively cleared of brush by volunteers since 2004. These areas will be used to accommodate some 60,000 people in motor homes, caravans and tents. These preparations have progressed well and are still on schedule.
The beginning of 2007 has focused on training and planning. In January, there was training for leaders responsible for volunteers at the Helsinki R.Y. (Rauhanyhdistys or Association of Peace) and those recruiting workers at the Oulu and Kuusamo R.Y.s. In March, there was a weekend of training for the news media and service committees at the Jämsä Opisto (Christian folk high school). The equipment used for the services was undergoing repair and maintenance in the storage facilities. The actual construction projects will resume again in late April, Saturday the 28th.
Several local associations of peace, namely from Kouvula, Lahti, Lappeenranta, Espoo, Helsinki, Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Lohja, Mäntsälä, Nurmijärvi, Pornainen, Porvoo and Vantaa are responsible for hosting this year's Valkeala summer services
