How we believe
The conservative laestadians base their teachings on the Holy Bible (KJV) and the Lutheran creed. Center-most is the preaching of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. The work of Christ continues in this world as the work of the Holy Spirit within His congregation.
The conservative laestadians teach that the Holy Spirit performs the work of salvation through the gospel. God sanctifies a sinner within His congregation. The congregation and its members have been entrusted with the word of reconciliation. The proclamation of the gospel is the office of the Holy Spirit. Only His followers have and use this authority. In preaching this gospel onto all people, they also proclaim the message of the forgiveness of sins, which is the core of the gospel. With this proclamation, the sinner can be assured, in Jesus' name and blood, their sins are forgiven. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
One of the more important parts of our teaching is the principles of reformation. It states that the Holy Bible is the highest authority in questions regarding faith and life. Also that people are made righteous alone by faith, alone by grace and alone by the merits of Christ.
Faith is a gift of God. God has given the gift of faith to everyone born into this world.
Baptism is the covenant of a good conscience with God. With baptism, God strengthens the child's faith and lifts him into the care of the congregation. Through the baptismal grace, the fallen person may again receive the gift of faith through repentance.
Repentance is a change of heart. According to Luther, it includes penitence and discomfort due to sin, but at the same token, believing the gospel or the remission of sin. The core of the gospel is the forgiveness of sins.
Communion is the holy supper in the remembrance of Jesus. It is meant for the strengthening of faith for the believers.
The Kingdom of God can be found on the earth, according to the teachings of Jesus. It is a kingdom of grace on earth and a kingdom of glory in heaven. The kingdom of God is one-minded in faith, doctrine, and love.
