Pauli Rentola
God is the Creator of All Things
Genesis 1: 1-5
The sermon's topic was taken from the first pages of the Bible, which tell about the creation of the world. The speaker quoted from the Small Catechism: "I believe that God has created me and all other creatures and takes care of them". In the Fall, a fallen angel, the Devil, tempted the first human beings into sin. Sin seperates from God. Nowadays people attempt to live independently of God, to live as if He doesn't exist. Many desire to be the master of their own lives and their own destinies. The story of Creation is difficult to understand with pure reason. We confess that our understanding is limited and that we are unable to fully understand God and His thoughts. Through faith we comprehend that God has created the world with His word.
Rentola spoke of a reporter, who wrote about his attempt to achieve peace of conscience and mind. He asked how he could find God. He wished that God would turn His countenance upon him. "If only I could reach you, he or she who thinks like this reporter. From God's perspective the channel is open. The Creator of the universe desires to speak to you, desires to forgive your sins, that you would become a child of God. The world shall perish but the soul is eternal. God wants your soul to come into His presence."
