Summer Service vocabulary

If you have never visited the summer services, some of the words and their meanings might be strange. Here is a list of terms and explanations that are used at the summer services. More info in your service program.

Big tent: Large white tent in the center of the summer service area. Hymns and songs of Zion are sung, as well as all the sermons and worship services are held in the big tent. All the announcements are read from the big tent heard throughout the service area.

Service gateway: The service gateway is a symbol of the summer services and it shows the service logo. It is located in the central area and it also functions as a meeting place.

Trash collection with sticks: A pleasant task for children at the summer services is to gather trash with a stick with a nail. .

Central field: The central field is the central area of the summer service area formed of the cafeteria, service gateway, the flags of the different countries and the large service tent.

Publications store:  Store for publications published by the SRK.

Ice cream sales: Ice cream sold from coolers delights not only the service guests but even more the children selling the ice cream. To become an ice cream seller is a dream of children at the summer services.

Liter sales: Steaming hot food is sold by the liter at the service area into the buyer's own container at specially marked Litramyyntipiste. Food can be purchased into your own pot and eaten at your own caravan.

SRK: Abbreviation for the Suomen Rauhanyhdistysten Keskusyhdistys.Central organization of Associations of Peace. The SRK organizes the summer services together with the RY responsible for the event.

Suvis: Colloquial form for summer services.

Motto: The motto is usually a phrase from the bible, which is the theme of the summer services. It changes each year and the summer service organization makes the selection.
