SRK Press Release, April 16, 2020

Summer Services Will Be Held This Summer on the Radio and Online
Scandinavia’s largest religious event will be postponed for a year due to the Corona virus pandemic. The Board of Suomen Rauhanyhdistysten Keskusyhdistys (SRK [LLC’s sister organization in Finland]) has made a decision to postpone the Reisjärvi Summer Services to the year 2021. The plan was to arrange the services in Reisjärvi June 26-29, 2020.
In recent years, approximately 80,000 guests have visited the Summer Services.

According to the new plan, the Summer Services will be held via the radio and internet in 2020, in Reisjärvi 2021, Loppi 2022, Kauhava 2023 and Pudasjärvi 2024. The SRK Executive Committee prepared this plan with those who are organizing services in the coming years. The final decision on who will hold Summer Services when will be made at SRK’s Annual Meeting this fall.

“We evaluated various options and their effects. We also had discussions with landowners in the localities where services will be held. In the warm-spirited negotiations, all parties had the will to find a common solution,” says SRK Board Chairman Matti Taskila.

There have been many requests and inquiries surrounding next summer’s services. We have wanted to respond to those, even though it is now not possible to gather at services.

“Next summer it is possible to listen to God’s Word via the Summer Services radio. The services will be arranged as radio services and video broadcasts,” says Olli Lohi, SRK’s Communications Director.

Summer Service radio’s FM radio and internet broadcast will be on air June 24-August 3, 2020.

“We have received many requests regarding starting the radio broadcast earlier in the spring. We are currently exploring the possibility of launching online radio broadcasts as early as May,” Lohi adds.

Happiness in Reisjärvi due to Continuation of Services Preparation

“In many homes the Summer Services have been highly anticipated, so we are very happy that we can hold the services in Reisjärvi a year from now anyway. Amid these exceptional times the joy includes the thought “if God wills,” says Taisto Peltoniemi, chairman of the Summer Services Executive Planning Committee.

The Executive Planning Committee will meet this month to decide on suspending services preparations as well as a schedule for when to resume preparations.

“We’ve been preparing for these services for several years. Now it is time to take a break and catch our breath,” says Markku Poikkimäki, Vice Chairman of the Executive Planning Committee.
